Young adults today face challenges that were not as prevalent in previous generations. Expectations are less clear about what a person should do after finishing college. Most job markets offer less entry level positions, which in turn requires individuals to seek out a higher education. There is less pressure for young adults today to get married and have children at a young age.
Often times young adults today will express that while they do not feel like a child anymore, they may not feel ready to take on all of the responsibilities of becoming an adult. Young adults are often times still trying to figure out who they and what they want to accomplish in their lives. They may struggle with the need to be independent, the need to be accepted, the need to be loved, and the need to succeed.
Therapy can help young adults to explore their identity as well as their beliefs and values for themselves, their relationships, and their world. Specifically, therapy can help young adults to figure out how they fit into their world and how to make the transition to being an independent adult.
